The world's former strongest man, Eddie Hall, has heartbreakingly announced he's lost his unborn child.

The strongman and his wife, Alexandra, were expecting their third child together; they are currently parents to son Maximus, 11, and five-month-old daughter.

Eddie also has a daughter named Layla from a previous relationship.

The couple had previously announced they were expecting with a family snap from a pumpkin farm wishing a 'happy Halloween from the five of us'.

They all wore matching skeleton onesies as Alexandra's featured a drawing of a little skeleton baby on her stomach.

Eddie and Alexandra shared the sad news to Instagram today (3 December), writing in an emotional post: "Unfortunately we have lost our unborn baby girl. Personally we don’t want to talk right now, share too much, and don’t want to pick it apart.

"There is no right way to deal with these things, only the way you choose to. Our hearts are exhausted and talking isn’t going to change anything or bring her back.

"We hope that enough people see this to prevent us having to have this painful conversation in person.

"Right now we are taking some time alone to recover. Thank you for understanding, Alex and Eddie."

Fans have flooded the strongman and his family with support as they call it 'so terribly sad'.

Also known as 'The Beast', Eddie is best known for winning the 2017 World's Strongest Man competition as well as for his world-record setting 500 kg deadlift in 2016.

He recently shared that Maximus had managed a 100kg deadlift at the age of just 11, telling his dad he wants to get 200kg before reaching his 12th birthday.

Eddie also recently announced he had signed a contract to fight MMA. In February, he is set to fight in Qatar in a 'four man eliminator'.

Earlier this year, he featured as a bartender in the movie Expend4bles, which starred Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone.
