Christmas is upon us and while some have been watching festive films since the start of October (you know who you are), others are just starting to wind down for the holidays and are looking for some recommendations.
Well, look no further. We’ve listed nine of the best not too cheesy, but cheesy enough Christmas movies on Netflix (excluding Love Actually, because that’s just tradition, right?).
Last Christmas
We start this list with a classic Christmas rom-com. Despite working as an elf, Kate (Emilia Clarke) doesn’t believe in the magic of Christmas. Everything changes when she meets Tom (Henry Golding), who brings faith back into her life.
A Castle For Christmas
Famed author Sophie Brown (Brooke Shields) travels to Scotland hoping to buy a small castle of her own, but the prickly owner, Duke Myles (Cary Elwes), is reluctant to sell to a foreigner. Working to find a compromise, the pair constantly butt heads, but they just may find something more than they were expecting.
Deck The Halls
An optometrist's Christmas celebration gets upstaged by a new neighbor who wants to create a holiday display bright enough to be seen from space. Starring Starring:Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick and Kristin Davis.
Holidate
Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey star in this festive rom-com as two strangers fed up with being single on holidays agree to be each other's platonic plus-ones all year long, only to catch real feelings along the way. Holidate was a hit with viewers when it was released in 2020 - so much so, that a sequel is being planned.
Love Hard
Hopeless romantic but eternally single LA journalist Natalie (Nina Dobrev) thinks things are beginning to look up when she swipes right on Tag (Darren Barnet), a dreamy guy from the East Coast. Taking a leap of faith, she jumps on a flight to surprise her crush for the holidays, only to discover that she's been catfished by Tag's childhood friend who is equally unlucky in love, Josh (Jimmy O. Yang).
The Holiday
Stuck in a vicious cycle of dead-end relationships with two-timing men, Los Angeles movie trailer maker Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and single London journalist Iris (Kate Winslet) decide to swap homes for the holidays. Turns out, a change of scenery is just what they needed as romances on both sides of the pond begin to brew.
Single All The Way
Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status at Christmas, Peter (Michael Urie) convinces his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to join him for the holidays and pretend that they're now in a relationship. But when Peter’s mother (Kathy Najimy) sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James (Luke Macfarlane), the plan goes awry.
Holiday In The Wild
Prepare to grab your tissues for this tear-jerking, heart-warmer. When her husband abruptly ends their marriage just as her son heads off to university, empty nester Kate (Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis) decides to head on what should have been her second honeymoon with her husband in Africa alone. After helping her tour guide rescue an orphaned elephant, her veterinary instincts kick in and she finds a new purpose – not to mention a potential romance (Rob Lowe).
Christmas Inheritance
Netflix
To inherit her father's company, socialite Ellen must first visit his small hometown, where she learns the value of hard work and helping others. Starring Eliza Taylor, Jake Lacy, Andie MacDowell and Neil Crone.
Advert
There are the obvious classic crowd pleasers like Home Alone and Muppets Christmas Carol, some might say Die Hard and even Shrek 2?! But we hope we’ve given you a few to think about in the vast slate of Christmas films available on Netflix this holiday season.
Enjoy!
