A National Geographic Disney+ series has been released based on the story of a couple who played a pivotal role in helping Anne Frank

A National Geographic Disney+ limited series has been released based on the story of a couple who played a pivotal role in helping Anne Frank.

Anne Frank's Diary is well-known to many, documenting the horrors of being Jewish in WWII and the coming of age as a woman despite being in the middle of conflict and hidden in an attic.

The attic Frank and her family - father Otto, mother Edith and sister Margot - were hidden in for two years was at the top of Otto's office building and they were protected by a Dutch couple called Miep and Jan Gies.

While we've had an insight into the Franks' lives in the attic during those couple of years, a miniseries has now revealed the Gies' experience and story.

Could the cast get any better? We think not.

The eight-episode miniseries, titled A Small Light, tells Anne Frank's story from 'the other side of the bookcase'.

The synopsis, as per Disney+, reads: "Based on a true story, A Small Light follows Miep Gies, a young, carefree secretrary who hid Otto Frank and his family from the Nazis in WWII.

"For nearly two years, Miep and her husband Jan protected the Franks and others while she held down a day job, kept her marriage intact and shouldered more responsibility than anyone could imagine.

"While millions are familiar with Anne Frank's diary and her family's life in the Secret Annex, A Small Light is the lesser-known story of how an ordinary secretary showed extraordinary courage during one of the darkest moments in history."

Powley plays the role of Miep Gies who helped hide the Franks.
