Angelina Jolie opens up about 'fascinating journey' she had with Denzel Washington

The actor opened up about her time working with her co-star Denzel Washington on The Bone Collector

Angelina Jolie has revealed that she had the 'best sex' ever with her co-star, Denzel Washington.

In the 1999 thriller, The Bone Collector, Jolie played the role of a cop who becomes romantically involved with a quadriplegic forensics - a person affected by paralysis of all four limbs - expert, played by Washington.

The plot revolves around a serial killer who abducts his victims and brutally kills them, but as he discovers the deep investigation, he starts dropping clues for the officer and expert.

Jolie emphasised how the 'romance' between the protagonists was important for her and Washington's characters, who had to build more intimacy than physicality for the 'development' of the movie plot.

In an interview with Dark Horizons in 1999 while promoting her next feature film, Girl, Interrupted, she said: "It was great seducing someone with your mind, a huge turn-on."

When talking about the complexity of their character's 'fascinating journey', she described it as 'the best sex I ever had'.

"What’s fascinating are the journeys these two characters undertake, and the deep relationship that evolves between them.” she said

But the movie was also pretty intense for the actor, and Jolie carried great responsibility on her shoulders.

"It was really lonely and I went a bit nuts. From the beginning, I felt as if I was not capable of doing this, of leading a film and being responsible for this, of physically handling this, of saving a life and going in there and being a cop," she said.

Talking about her experience, she expressed: "This one was less extreme but nearly drove me insane because she was so insane inside.

"Sometimes with the extreme ones, you’re a character so you are free; this one was like: Be yourself, let those tears fall, be simple, and be still. You can’t hide. Sometimes it can be harder.”

In the end, she admitted how the film had taken a toll on her mental health, and she was left asking herself if she is a 'good person'.

"It was just all those things by yourself: Am I good enough, am I worth anything, really, on a spiritual deep level? You start to get into those things and this is what she had to go through, and then get through it."

But her dedication certainly paid off as her next film, Girl, Interrupted, would catapult Jolie to stardom.

That film grossed a worldwide profit of $48.3 million and Jolie's performance was praised, with one review calling it 'the best performance in the movie'.

After that, she starred in a number of blockbuster pics, including the Tomb Raider series as Lara Croft.

She revealed in 2021 that she initially passed on the role, believing it 'didn't suit her'.

But after travelling the world and training with the British military for three months, she found that she could do a lot more than she had previously thought.

"And you find that there’s a lot you didn’t know and some crazy, weird things you can do or you’re capable of, so I love it.”
