Artists may not always like their own iconic songs as much as their fans do, and it turns out Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee is not a fan of one particular bit in their hit song 'Bring Me To Life'.
Released in 2003, the track was written by Amy Lee when she was just 19-years-old and was included in the soundtrack of Mark Steven Johnson's Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck in the titular role alongside Jennifer Garner.
Despite becoming an international success and helping putting Evanescence on the map, it seems that Amy Lee wasn't really on board with including the male vocal rap, performed by Paul McCoy of the band 12 Stones. The rap segment was an idea of the label who tried to make the track more palatable to those listening to nu metal in those early 2000s.

In a recent interview, Amy Lee revealed she never performs the rap bit herself while on tour unless someone could jump in and do it.
"I stopped performing it a long time ago. We never really did perform it," she told Metal Hammer.
"When we’re on tour and we have somebody that fits into that spot, they jump up on the song. We were on tour with P.O.D and we had Sonny [Sandoval, vocalist] get up a few times. And obviously, if we’re ever in the same town as Paul [McCoy, 12 Stones vocalist], who originally did the part, we will have him come up, because it’s fun and it’s cool and nostalgic.
“But that part, that sound, that’s not my style. That’s why it was such a difficult pill to swallow, even on one song. But we won because we didn’t have to change our whole sound.”
The singer also addressed the nu metal genre, being asked whether she feels that her band fits into that category.

"Those are just words. I don't super get or agree with the boxes that we feel the need to put things in. If you're doing it right, every band is unique and is a slightly different colour than anything else," she replied.
"One of the questions I have been asked a lot in my life is, 'How would you define your sound? What would you call your genre?' I don't know how to do that. I want to always maintain the ability and the freedom to do something I've never done before."
'Bring Me To Life' was included in Evanescence's debut album Fallen. The band went on to release four other studio albums, with the most recent, titled The Bitter Truth, dating back to 2021.
They are set to return to the UK next to play Download Festival on June 9.
