Will FIFA 22 Be Cross-Platform?

Will FIFA 22 Be Cross-Platform?

FIFA has long been destined for cross-play support, but EA Sports has been very reluctant to do it up to now despite huge support among players in the run-up to FIFA 22's release.

Cross-platform gaming has become more and more common over the last 12 months and it seems that almost every other gaming franchise is now supporting it.

Even the likes of Call of Duty is supporting cross-generational gaming, but EA Sports is still yet to jump on the bandwagon.

Intriguingly, there are numerous EA games that feature cross-play, so there is no reason why FIFA 22 should be any different.

The biggest problem facing the PC version of FIFA is the lack of a player base, especially when compared to the huge audiences on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

A year down the line from the release of the next-gen consoles, could now finally be the time to give cross-play the green light on FIFA?

Will FIFA 22 have cross-play?

We've yet to see EA incorporate cross-platform gaming into their hit football sim, but players are desperate for it to happen.

At the moment, though, there is no news as to whether FIFA 22 will support it or not.

But fear not, there is a lot of evidence that suggests it could happen, while there is also a lot that suggests it couldn't.

In the build-up to the release of FIFA 21, EA shut down rumours of cross-play fairly swiftly, addressing the question over on social media with the following comment.

"You won't be able to play across console generation or cross-play in FIFA 21."

Taking all that into account, though, Need For Speed Heat is an EA game recently implemented cross-platform play, so EA doesn't seem to be totally against the idea.

In terms of FIFA, however, there would be a number of features that would remain console-specific though - the likes of the Weekend League competitions, for example, to ensure there is a clear divide between PlayStation and Xbox for ranking purposes.

The likes of FUT Friendlies and Pro Clubs could well be on the cross-play agenda, though.

If cross-play does become available in FIFA 22, chances are it will work with every mode except Ultimate Team.

With the transfer market so heavily saturated on both PlayStation and Xbox, things do start to get complicated, as the market would have to merge into one unified space.

For now, though, we'll just have to wait, see and hope.
