Woman shocked after receiving £29 invoice to refund 'unsuccessful date'

Woman shocked after receiving £29 invoice to refund 'unsuccessful date'

Fiona received the invoice with an itemised list of costs

Split the bill, or accept that one person's going to cover the costs are usually the only two outcomes when it comes to paying on a date, but a viral TikTok video has now brought a third option to light.

We're all familiar with invoices, right? They're pretty common in encounters between companies and clients, with the documents used to lay out an itemised bill to break down each cost.

There's no denying it's a good way to ensure you're getting what you pay for, so one man decided to use the format to ensure he was refunded for every penny he spent on an 'unsuccessful' date.

TikToker Fiona Hope took to the platform to share her bizarre experience last week, explaining she'd been on the date and later told the man she 'didn't have a romantic connection' with him.

The man requested £29 back from Fiona.

Most people would expect that to be the end of it, but it seems this particular man didn't feel the date had been worth paying for if it wasn't going to lead anywhere.

He sent an invoice to Fiona with the project name 'unsuccessful date', including a breakdown of £17 for food and £12 for drinks. It sounds like a relatively cheap evening in the grand scheme of things, but he still wanted to make sure he got that £29 back 'ASAP'.

Personally I'm all for going halves when it comes to paying for a date, but I feel like anything beyond a quick bank transfer for the ease of paying on one card is slightly excessive.

A polite text asking for the money would have achieved the same result, but this man actually went through the effort of creating the invoice, complete with a due date (the aforementioned 'ASAP'), and emailing it to Fiona.

"I am not kidding," the TikToker said. "I told him I didn't have a romantic connection with him politely over message, and this is the response.

The man clearly felt the date wasn't worth him paying for if it wasn't going to go anywhere.

"He said it's not a matter of money, it's the principle. £29 man, come on. Give me a break. I mean, would you do this?"

Fiona has received mixed reactions to her video, with some taking the man's side while others couldn't believe the effort put into the invoice.

"The amount of men agreeing with this, I can’t," one person wrote, while another commented: "This is brilliant fair play to the bloke."

Could this be the start of a new post-date trend?
