He took to YouTube to document his findings

The thought of how long you could go with no sleep has probably crossed your mind at some point.

Well, the answer comes to us from health and fitness influencer, Joe Fazer, who took it upon himself to try out the challenge for the viewing pleasure of his 1.47 million YouTube subscribers.

And the results are pretty illuminating.

Now, we all should know by now the importance of sleep - which just as vital for good health as diet and exercise.

Not only can a good night's rest improve your brain performance, mood, and health, but it can also significantly lower your risk for serious health problems, like diabetes and heart disease.

And a lack of sleep could impact your overall health in the long run, according to experts.

However, the 21-year-old decided to throw all of that out the window with his experiment, which he titled: "I Attempted To See How Long I Could Go Without Sleep."

Joe began by giving his viewers a disclaimer: "This is definitely a challenge I would not recommend you try."

The first 18 hours seemed to be A-okay and 'relatively fine' for the YouTuber, however by 22 hours in, Joe revealed: "I'm starting to get tired."

By the 24-hour mark, Joe had his very first hit of caffeine intake.

The coffee clearly gave him the buzz he needed as the fitness influencer told the camera after his first sip: "You know what, boys? Screw it, we're going to destroy this challenge!"

Then, just a few hours later, he was totally 'knackered' once again at 29 hours with no sleep and decided to remedy the fatigue with a freezing cold shower to give him a little reset.

"As much as that was absolutely f**king horrible, it worked! I feel more awake," Joe noted.

With this 'new high of energy', the YouTuber decided to hit the gym and 'smash a workout' at the 30-hour point, revealing: "No exaggeration, at this point in the challenge, I didn't feel tired at all."

By hour 33, Joe said he felt 'alright'.

Explaining the stages of tiredness he went through, he continued: "Started off fine, then extremely tired and now I feel OK."

He then popped into town for a bite to eat and then a club in the hopes of it waking him up.

"I had never wanted to leave a place so badly," Joe admitted.

By 36 hours, he had his second coffee but a few hours later, he finally 'passed out'.

"I tried to go on for as long as I physically could but there was one point where I just put my head back for a second and, well, I think you can see what happened.

"I just passed out."

In total, Joe lasted 42 hours and 22 minutes.

The video, which was posted to the platform last year, has since clocked up over two million views - with hundreds of comments from people eager to share their reactions to the experiment.

One YouTube user penned: "Sleep is so easily underestimated."

A second quipped: "Going this much without sleep really reminds how important it is. Getting good sleep is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

"Feel better physically and mentally as opposed to getting bad sleep."

"It's amazing how important sleep actually is for the body," quipped a third.

Another praised: "Y'all lasted longer than I would've. Good job."

"Can’t believe you stayed awake this long," chimed in a fifth, while a final echoed: "So brutal! I think I’ll stay away from this challenge haha. Solid effort boys!"
