The proud owner of a Mini Cooper was left with a very hefty bill to pay thanks to a simple mixup when she attempted to replace the windscreen wash fluid.
Every driver knows - I hope - how important it is to put the right kind of gas in your car, because you definitely won't get very far if you attempt to fill up a diesel vehicle with petrol.

That's not the only mixup that could cause disaster when you're driving, though - and unfortunately, this particular driver learned that the hard way.
In a post shared as a warning on Facebook, a garage worker explained how the woman entered the shop after running out of windscreen wash fluid in her Mini.
The liquid is one of the elements of the car that you probably never really think about that much until it's run out, but it's always good to keep it topped up for those occasions when you find yourself splattered on a muddy road, or targeted with some bird poo.

Anyway, the woman bought some liquid to fill up her car and went on her way, but 10 minutes later she returned to the garage, concerned that her car had started to emit a strange blue smoke.
Obviously, that isn't just a cool effect that Mini has added to its cars, so the staff took a closer look under the hood, and you don't need to be a car expert to know that what they found wasn't good.
Images of the engine show it entirely covered in a sticky-looking, brown substance.
More of the goo had also emerged from underneath the car, rendering the entire hood area as a disaster zone.

In the post, the garage worker explained that rather than putting the windscreen wash fluid in its designated compartment, the driver had accidentally emptied five litres of the stuff into the oil pan.
Needless to say, the two aren't interchangeable.
Considering the engine was entirely covered in goo, the driver was looking at a big clean up job and even an engine replacement, which can cost as much as £3,300.
And Facebook users were left shocked by the damage, with one commenting: "Sh*t I would never have thought that it was doing damage like that."

The driver's story should definitely be considered a warning to other drivers to double check exactly where you're putting the various fluids when you go to top up your car - it will only take a few seconds, and it could save you a whole lot of cash!
