Man has classic response to winning £76 million Lottery jackpot dubbed 'most British reaction ever'

A man’s hilariously calm response to winning a £76 million lottery jackpot is being called ‘the most British ever’.

Andrew Clark, from Boston in Lincolnshire, scooped the life-changing sum on the Euromillions draw back in 2018 - and you can hear his laidback reaction here:

In an audio clip shared by the National Lottery, Andrew kicks off the call with a massive understatement, telling the call-handler: "Hello mate, I think I've won a few quid, so I phoned."

After entering Andrew’s lucky numbers into the system, the operator Craig replied: "OK, yeah, so, £76 million."

A few quid indeed.

Clearly the news hasn’t quite sunk in, as Andrew casually replies: “Yeah.” Craig then reveals the full amount - a staggering £76,369,806.80, to which Andrew responded: "Just a little bit then."

The clip has recently resurfaced on TikTok, where it was dubbed the ‘most British response’ to winning the lottery - and it’s hard to disagree.

As you can imagine, TikTok users found the whole thing pretty funny with many people unable to believe how Andrew remained so calm.

Commenting on the clip one TikTok user said: “How can he even talk? I’d have no words.”

Another said: “Bro was so calm about the next 63 generations of his family not having to work another day.”

Someone else joked: “The employee on the phone is more excited.”

Recalling their own brush with lotto luck, someone else said: “I won £200 and I was screaming and crying.” Fair.

Incredibly, it took Andrew six weeks to realise he’d won big, after his partner's niece Louise said he should check his tickets.

Speaking at the time of his win, Andrew said: "It was about 8pm and we were watching telly when Louise reminded me again about the tickets.

"I finally gave in, got the bundle out of the van and started to work my way through them, methodically from the oldest to the most recent, starting with Lotto, before moving on to my EuroMillions tickets.

"You might say I was slightly winding up Louise, but I certainly didn't expect the wind up to end with me saying 'I've done it, I've won £76m' - I won't say what she said in response!"

He continued: "Trisha [Andrew’s partner] kept telling me to check the tickets, and her niece Louise, who I was building an extension for, was also in on it once she'd heard about the unclaimed prize in the news.

"It was something of a standing joke that I had all these tickets while there was a local prize outstanding, so for weeks they were on at me to check."
