Man 'Breaks World Record' For Amount Of Pubs Visited In 24 Hours

Matt Ellis believes he's broken the record for the longest pub crawl... but he didn't have a pint at each one.

A pub enthusiast is claiming to have set a new world record for the longest bar crawl after he visited 51 boozers in nine hours... but miraculously, he only drank four pints on his 'bender'.

We suppose he'll be let off - 51 pints would see him six foot under... can't help but feel a tinge of disappointment that he didn't at least try and give 15 (51 reversed) a go.

Matt Ellis, 48, averaged five pubs every hour but only sank four pints of bitter during his marathon session 'because of his health.'

Instead, Matt got through six litres of drinks throughout the day - opting for orange juice and diet coke rather than 51 pints of beer.

Fair play, he'll still be peeing for England.

He believes he's become the world's pub crawl champion after touring the boozers in just eight hours and 52 minutes - with no previous record set.

Matt had to drink at least 125ml in more than 50 pubs to get the new world record, meaning his choice of soft drinks won't compromise his Guinness World Record chances.

Matt said: "I wanted to keep it responsible and didn't drink too much for my health. Maybe several years ago I would have made it with 51 alcoholic drinks but not now."

Matt started his pub crawl with a half-pint of ale at the Wetherspoon in Cambridge. He began his adventure at midday after eating a full English breakfast to 'line the stomach'.

He didn't eat anything as he drank some 6.3 litres of liquid during the pub crawl, which finished in his hometown of St Neots, Cambs.

Matt went on: "I was drinking so much liquid that I couldn't fit any food in. During the night I went to the loo six or seven times." We've all been there, Matt.

He spent an average of four minutes in each pub and avoided drinks like shandy in favour of speedier options such as soda water, lemonade and ginger beer.

His world record attempt was monitored by independent witnesses who took pictures of Matt with his drink in all 51 pubs as evidence.

Explaining the challenge, Matt said: "It was just to get some support for pubs that have shut down [during the pandemic].

"It's been a really bad year. I wanted to raise their profile for people to get down to their local and support their community."

Guinness World Record officials are expected to assess Matt's effort within the next week.
