Boy, 10, Cuts Off His Long Hair And Donates It Charity

A ten-year-old boy who grew his hair for two years has cut it all off to donate to charity. How sweet is that?

Little Gabriel Rowcroft-James, from Milton Keynes, had a whopping 12 inches cut off during his first haircut since he was eight, and now has a short back and sides.

The kind-hearted kid first started talking about wanting a haircut around six months ago, but didn't want his long, blonde wavy locks to go to waste.

When he found out about charities that take donations of hair to make into wigs for other youngsters, Gabriel decided to do a bit of research before deciding to send it off to the Little Princess Trust.

But Gabriel didn't stop there - as well as donating his hair, he also raised £1,200 for the charity after discovering that it cost them £500 to make a wig.

Gabriel even got his mum Rozi to donate her hair, leaving her with a classic pixie cut and providing another 16 inches of hair for the charity. Incredible.

Rozi, a maths teacher, said: "We're both thrilled with our new haircuts, and with the amount of money we've raised.

"We've now got enough money for Little Princess Trust to make two and a half wigs.

"Gabriel is delighted. He's been working really hard promoting the fundraising page around our parish, putting it in the local church news sheet, and talking to his Scouts group about it.

"It's been fantastic, and he's really learned a lot about the charity and the wig-making process, and telling other people about it, too."

Gabriel added: "It still feels a bit odd when I wake up and realise I don't have long hair anymore.

"But I like it. I'm changing the colour between green and blue at the moment.

"I was slightly nervous before I got it cut, mainly because I was so used to having it long.

"But I can regrow my hair. I'm donating it for people who can't, or might not ever be able to grow their hair."

What a little hero.

Rozi said the cause is close to home for the family, as Gabriel's dad Mark lost all his hair during chemotherapy as a child. She explained: "It's not something that Gabriel saw or experienced himself, but his dad has told him about it - so this does have a personal level to it for us."
